In this proposal for Habitácola 2018, "Lecturas de(l) Bibliobús" we propose an urban design project focused on the village of Vallromanes, in Vallés Oriental, which can be extrapolated to the remaining villages on the bibliobus route. The aim is to reactivate the public space with the arrival of the bibliobus, to give visibility and dynamize the space making it more attractive to the user, to promote the use and service of the bibliobus in the center of the village. We have designed a process spread over time, divided into three phases and three different spaces, with progressive actions to bring the phenomenon of the bookmobile to the town. The first phase aims to connect Plaça de l’Església with Plaça Can Poal, using a mobile complement of books, called minibus, following a route proposed through a geometric rubber pavement with the colors of the bibliobus graphics.
The second phase will accentuate the connection between the two squares by incorporating a set of platforms, which will create shaded areas for users. These will provide spatial dynamism as a children’s play, relaxation and reading area, equipped with heatable tubes and loudspeakers. The structured geometric shapes will support the program of activities and workshops of the bookmobile. For the last phase, after actively involving the user in the bookmobile’s programming, parasitic comfort structures will be added, with adjustable tables and backrests for the benches of the existing public furniture. The parasitic structures will be transported on the bookmobile for multiple uses at each stop. These three phases would give the people the opportunity to assimilate the process in a slow and progressive manner.
